What's for Dinner?

The heat is on here in Sunny California.  It got up to a whopping 104 degrees where we are and some areas even hotter this past weekend.  When asked what's for dinner I said "not turning that stove on".  Way too hot out to light up the BBQ so Hot Dogs, homemade potato salad and watermelon that's what we had for dinner last night.

LATEST CRAZE

Is this the latest craze?  It was autograph books, collecting pins and lanyards and now I think the latest craze at Disneyland is Vinylmation.  You ask what is that?  Vinylmation is a collectible vinyl series featuring original designs from Disney Theme Park Merchadise.  Not sure I really get it but my son and niece seemed to understand.  There are 12 different designs in each unique themed collection.  My son does not ask for much but when he saw these he wanted one so I made the purchase.  He picked one from the URBAN collection.  These are not cheap; they are $9.95 a piece.  The catch is you have no clue which one you will end up with.  They are in a sealed wrapper and then in a sealed box.  The next day he asked if he could purchase another one.  Hey, we are at Disneyland having fun and this is the only thing he wants so we purchase a second one from the URBAN collection again.  Luckily it was a different one.  I saw people buying 5 or more in one purchase.  These seem to be going like hotcakes.
Yes, he ended up with 4 of these.  Lucky for him he did not get a duplicate.

Where's Mickey

There are so many fun things to do while you are at Disneyland. You can meet the Characters and get autographs, you can eat with the characters, you can see shows, ride the rides and shop. But did you know that you can look for Mickey? There are HIDDEN Mickey's throughout the park. We looked for the Mickey's this trip and had a fun time. Some of them were pretty challenging and we did not find all of them. There are hidden Mickeys at Disney California as well. They sell a book titled "DISNEYLAND'S HIDDEN MICKEYS" A Field Guide to Disneyland Resorts Best Kept Secrets a fun book for the older child (or adult).

"Hidden Mickey" also applies to hidden images of other popular characters such as Minnie's, Donald Duck, Goofy and others. My son and I think we spotted a hidden Donald Duck but
can not be for certain. If your planning a trip to Disneyland don't forget to look for the hidden Mickey's.

The Happiest Place on Earth

Is it really the happiest place on earth? The crowds, the heat, the tired feet, the hustle and bustle ~ how in the world is this happy? The last few days of summer vacation we spent three days up in Anaheim with one of my sisters, her daughter and my son. Disneyland always seems to put a smile on your face, lets you forget all your troubles and cares and we always have a great time even with the heat, the crowds and tired feet. This visit the lines seemed to move quicker; the longest we stood in any line was 20 minutes so that was a plus.
My son and I love Thunder Mountain so we rode that several times during our days visiting and we even rode it at night. It is more of a thrill at night!

You can now walk up into the castle. My niece was excited about that, my son.....not so much.

After taking a spin on the Autopia cars I told my son he would not be getting his drivers license anytime soon. He assured me he was too young right now but in a couple years look out! We had hopper tickets so we also went over to Disney California and spent some time. My sister and niece rode this Ferris Wheel - no thank you, not only are you high in the air your basket is going back and fourth. When I was young I loved the Ferris Wheel but I don't like being high up like that anymore.

We all had a great time and yes; I think this is the Happiest Place on Earth!

My sons favorite rides at Disneyland are Thunder Mountain, Pirates of the Carribean and the Haunted Mansion. I like them all but I do like Thunder Mountain the most. At Disney California are favorites are Soaring and the Toy Story ride. If you have been to Disneyland or Disney California tell us what your favorite rides are.

BACK TO SCHOOL

New clothes, shoes and backpack....it's back to school time. I love seeing all the kids in their fresh clothes on the first day of school. When I was a child I used to get so excited about my new clothes, new shoes, new lunch box. My son has never been one to get excited over clothes, shoes or backpacks. Is it a girl thing only to be excited over this stuff? Although, not too excited that summer is over he was excited to get back to see all of his friends. So, now I have got to get back to routine after having way too much fun over the summer.

The Hatchery

On the way home from Bishop the boys stopped at the Mt Whitney Fish Hatchery. If you have never been to a Fish Hatchery it is very interesting. After surviving the 55,000 acre wild fire that stopped just yards away from the Hatchery in July 2007, then July 2008 they had a heavy thunderstorm on the burned areas bringing a wall of mud and ash down the Sierra into Oak Creek. The mud flow went through the hatchery site. A four foot layer of mud and debris was left throughout the grounds of the hatchery. Unfortunately fish died during the wild fire and the mud slide. They told my husband some of the fish also died of Lyme disease. In 2007 we were in Bishop and while visiting the hatchery we saw over 100 firefighters stop in to eat their lunch and take a break under the shade of the trees. What a sight it was seeing fire engines from all over California that had come to fight the fire. I wish I would of snapped a picture of all these wonderful firefighters gathered in one place taking a well deserved break. The hatchery has been cleaned up and hopefully the fishing will be better in the years to come.

The Great Outdoors

Husband took our son and his friend camping/fishing for five days this past week in Northern California. They went to a beautiful place in the Inyo National Forrest called Bishop. I decided to sit this trip out and let the boys have their time. (I have been camping here and it is wonderful). The weather was in the 50's, the skies were clear and blue.
The below building is the only facilities you will find ~ A toilet and a sink.
The great thing about this camp area is that you have this stream of water flowing within feet of your campsite. You can sit back and relax or fish in the stream.

This is one of the lakes where you can go fishing. Unfortunately there weren't many fish to be caught this year. I will talk about that in my next post.

The boys took a hike up to an old mine shaft, did alot of fishing, sat by the campfire at night being boys, talking, laughing, roasting marshmellows, tried roasting zingers but I guess that did not work out so well.

If you like the great outdoors, camping, roughing it, hiking, fishing or just need some quiet relaxing time outdoors this is the place to visit.

The Debate

To Blog or Not to Blog ?? This is the question I have pondered in my mind for well over a year. Why would I want to add one more thing to my "to do list" everyday? I realized there are no
set rules on how often one must blog. I have been reading blogs daily for over a year so why not start my own blog. I find reading blogs to be interesting, motivating, a little addictive and spirit lifting. And I am amazed at how many creative people there are out in blog land. So I have finally decided to take the plunge and give it a try. So bear with me as I get the hang of it all.
